Hardfacing and Corrosion Resistant Coatings

BENEFITS

Laser cladding and hardfacing enable the bonding of dissimilar materials through welding and other mediums, enhancing the component’s physical properties and characteristics.

Different metals can be applied or affixed to the interior or exterior of a metal part or component for various applications and purposes.

If a metal component is exposed to caustic materials, a corrosion-resistant overlay can extend its lifetime by 4x – 6x.

If a part is or will be located in a hard-to-reach or inaccessible location, hardfacing and corrosion-resistant coatings’ strengthening properties can prevent costly maintenance and logistically challenging situations from component failure.

EXAMPLES AND BENEFITS OF COMMONLY BONDED METALS

  • 316 Stainless Steel: This marine-grade steel containing Molybdenum helps boost corrosion resistance against chlorides and solvents.
  • 410 Stainless Steel: Has superior wear resistance and strength coupled with corrosion resistance.
  • Aluminum – Bronze: Has high strength and corrosion resistance. It is well suited for marine components.
  • Cobalt 6: This chromium and cobalt mix, also known as Stellite 6, provides wear resistance that holds up in corrosive environments. Some popular uses include pump shafts, valve seats, and bearings.
  • Hastelloy X: This is a nickel-based superalloy that is highly resistant to oxidation and can withstand up to 2200°F. Popular uses include gas turbines, petrochemical, and aerospace.
  • Inconel 625: This nickel-based superalloy features high strength and heat resistance. It enhances the lifetime of jet engine exhausts, superheater tubes, and chemical processing equipment.
  • Titanium: A Ti-6AI-4V has an incredibly high strength-to-weight ratio that’s ideal for corrosion resistance. Popular uses include aerospace components.
